In 1978, when the piazza went up in downtown New Orleans, urbane critics were quick to decipher the architectural in-jokes for those in the derriere-garde. They elucidated the “concentrical hemicyclical” colonnades painted bright yellow, ochre, and red. They gushed over the esoteric water features—”wetopes,” Moore called them. And they winked knowingly at twin cartouches of Moore’s benevolent face on an arch above the piazza’s St. Joseph’s Fountain. Photo captured by E. Olson.

Soaring to nearly 630-feet, the geyser’s height mirrors that of St. Louis’ famed Gateway Arch, located directly across the Mississippi River. The center fountain is complemented by four auxiliary fountains, which represent the four rivers that converge in the St. Louis area. This amazing photo of Wescott Fountain was captured by Fernando Sanchez [I'm Back!]. This water fountain has been part of Tallahassee, Florida tradition.  This is the fountain where the birthday celebrants are literally thrown into during their birthday.

During the day this waterfall remains silent and calm. However, every night the earth shakes and flames shoot into the night sky spewing smoke and fire 100 feet above the waters below, transforming a tranquil waterfall into spectacular streams of molten lava. This photo is captured by dmvcomics.

The Scott Fountain on Belle Isle was the gift of the controversial playboy millionaire James Scott. The fountain has fared better than his Mansion. The fountain, designed by architect Cass Gilbert, was completed in 1925. This photo was captured by Maia C.

The Goose Girl Fountain is located at the center of Mainstrasse Village. It signifies the German heritage of the area, as well as the history of farmers who raised geese in the Covington area.Without this charming centerpiece, MainStrasse would lose a bit of its Germanic essence. One of the great focal points of the city of Detroit is Hart Plaza, where so many of the city’s celebrations occur. At the heart of this otherwise bland expanse of concrete is a rather unique and marvelous fountain, named for Horace Dodge, of automobile fame, and his son. A world class fountain with approximately 100 water jets, active year-round, will be the centerpiece of Campus Martius Park. A raised central plinth contains jets that can shoot water in excess of 100 feet into the air while water shimmers and cascades down granite walls into the basin below. Water also cascades down perimeter steps while jets arc in from the corners. Light and music add drama during choreographed performances. This Photo was captured by Grafixation.
