The water fountain you are looking at in this picture is actually a gift to the citizens of London from the Blackburn estate; it was given by the late Marjorie Blackburn to the people of London in memory of her husband Walter J. Blackburn. Her Worship Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco of London even said that it is the best gift she has received from Richard Costley-White. Richard Costley-White is actually the grandson of Marjorie Blackburn. During the unveiling of this amazing water fountain, other members of the Blackburn family were in attendance that includes the offspring of Walter and Marjorie Blackburn’s namely Susan Blackburn, the sister of the late Martha Blackburn, who was Mr. Costley-White’s mother.

Little that we know that the name of Blackburn in the fountain is actually a name that is synonymous with London; this is because of the founder of the first daily newspaper released in London, and that is the London Free Press.  Josiah Blackburn was the person behind the establishment of the London Free Press for more than 150 years ago.

The design of the Walter J. Blackburn Memorial Fountain that we are looking at began in 2005 and it has even spanned two years, the construction of fountain was actually completed in 2008. The design was actually modeled after the famous jet d’Eau, another famous fountain found in Geneva, Switzerland. It has a one large jet that could propel water in about 30 meters high and it also has six smaller jets.
