The Arroyo Fountain in the City of Love
In one of the busiest streets in Iloilo City, Philippines stands a magnificent structure of ladies who would seem to be angels forever carved in stone. This structure is known as the Arroyo Fountain. The Arroyo Fountain in the modest city of Iloilo has been a landmark. Just like any other well maintained fountain, the Arroyo Fountain makes the area where it stands more pleasing to the eyes. Despite all the clatter of people and “jeepneys” in this area, the feeling of seeing clear fountain gushing up and falling down from the statues and the sound it creates, can somehow give a positive effect on passersby. This fountain is surrounded by a mixture of old and new buildings. These buildings include old Spanish houses and the well built Provincial Capitol of that place; a strong appearance with a modern architecture.
To describe the beauty of the Arroyo Fountain, the first and foremost noticeable figure would of course be the four sculpted ladies carrying a dish where water falls from. Old folks in Iloilo City would say that these ladies were unclothed before until the Catholic priest ordered for them to be clothed for modesty purposes. With or without clothing, the ladies in these statues are wonderful. Underneath these ladies is a large disk that also carries water. Furthermore, underneath this large disk is a pool of water with water fountains that gushes the water to the sky. As you can see, it is somehow a 3 tired water fountain located in junctions of roads, a section where serenity can reside in the City of Love.
