The Cistercian Maulbronn Monastery is a medieval monastery built between the 12th and 14th centuries north of the Alps. Legend has it that when the friars were finding a suitable place to stay, they sent a mule to help them. The mule stopped by a spring and drank its cool waters. The friars saw this as a sign from god and built a monastery in the area. The same water from the spring where the mule drank flows through the magnificent fountain they built until today thus earning the title “Mule Fountain”.
